How is medical marijuana working out in the states that have legalized it?
Q. I'm doing a speech for school about medical marijuana. I know it's legal in several states. What I don't know is how well these programs are working out. I'm hoping to find the most successful examples of medical marijuana use. My goal is to find the best way to implement such a program in my state, Arkansas, where it is illegal to use marijuana for any reason. I'd like to hear about problems that have come up and what was done to correct them. I am a member of a group of 5 people doing the speech, which is pro legalization of medical marijuana. My portion is 'visualization', where I must speak for about 5 minutes about what it would be like if medical marijuana use were legalized in Arkansas.

A. The state that is probably the most advanced in this area is California. There are several cities and other localities in California that have more or less officially sanctioned medical marijuana and allow "compassion clubs" to operate. These are dispensaries that sell or give marijuana to people who have the proper permits. There have been some reported problems with these clubs. One is that they are sometimes not well-received by the local officials who are using any kind of excuse they can think of to shut them down. In many cases, they get the DEA to raid the places. In other places, such as the Oaksterdam area of Oakland, the facilities receive the support of the local community and were a large part of the reason that a former "war… [cont.]

A. What exactly do you want to do or be? To be a nurse, you would need more schooling. But being a medical assistant alone, is a wonderful job. You could become the Head Med. Assistant, which would mean more $$. Talk to the office manager. She might have some ideas for you. Be aware of working with a lot of women. Women ten to get pretty B***y! So stay out of gossiping and back-stabbing, and just do your job!! :)

A. First you will need to determine which is primary. But you really haven't given enough info in your question. If one is yours (say through an employer) and the other is your spouses (through her employer) then yours is primary for you and hers will be secondary. BUT if one is yours through an employer and one is an individual policy that you pay for, you will have to look at the individual policy to see if it coordinates with any other policy or if it pays you directly. For the most part, Humana will only cover services supplied by Humana providers, except in the case of an emergency.(Much like Kaiser). You don't say what type of policy the Aetna is-HMO-PPO? Whatever carrier has the better benefit for the service you recieve, you will… [cont.]

Infectious disease subspecialty because it'll be very useful in the tropics, MPH because you need management skills to run your clinic, PhD because you get government grants that way and you will get grants if you publish and you publish more if you have credibility, Run clinical trials because pharm ppl will sponsor you and get access to drugs plus clinical trials pay a lot, and NGO board member because they'll provide you with a network of staff to wherever you want to set up shop. question is, are you capable? anesthesiologists dont go to the bushes sweety and be… [cont.]

Is biomedical lab research just a sub-field of medical research? They are both listed as different careers in the same category of medicine. A. Biomedical laboratory research is a subcategory of medical research. Medical research encompasses all types of research involving medical issues, including field work, clinical settings, survey analysis, statistical study of computerized medical databases, development of optimal treatment protocols, and many other research areas. Biomedical laboratory research is a domain of medical research wherein the preponderance of work is performed in a laboratory setting. Nevertheless, it is a very broad field, which includes endocrinology, rheumatology, genetics, immunology, pharmacology, and many subspecialties of medicine. What Medical Expenses are subject to the Alternative Minimum Tax?
Q. The Alternative Minimum Tax may affect many people because of deductions they claimed for medical expenses (in addition to other things). I'm wondering what "medical expenses" means. Is there a even a single definition or does the criteria differ from household to household?
Asked by Astr - Mon Jun 9 01:25:12 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The short answer to your question is: all medical expenses that you currently are used to deducting. If you itemize, you have to figure your AMT as well as your regular tax and pay the higher of the two. When you calculate your Alternative Minimum Tax, you take your regular Adjusted Gross Income and add back most of your itemized deductions (including medical and state and local taxes) as well as a whole bunch of other things that you can normally help yourself lower your tax liability with, and then calculate your AMT on the income less a different "exemption", which replaces the exemptions AND deductions of the regular tax system. Long story short, if having a lot of medical bills and/or high state and local taxes (among a lot of… [cont.]

Have medical schools been keeping the number of students limited to artificially inflate the income of doctors?
Q. Plenty of students who should be able to attend medical school are not allowed to because medical schools only admit a small number of students every year. Why do they not expand? The number of new doctors has remained pretty constant throughout the years.
Asked by unknown - Fri Mar 19 10:33:54 2010 - - 13 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You are absolutely correct! The AMA has been keeping the number of potential new doctors way below the optimum since its founding, as a way to boost the incomes of its members. Think of the AMA as the ultimately powerful labor union, but one that has life-or-death powers over the whole country. If you are a member of the UAW or the SEIU, you don't have the power of life or death over your neighbors or members of your community, but if you are a member of the AMA, you can restrict the number of new doctors down to such a small number that is would be laughable. This is exactly why half of all the doctors you now see in American hospitals and clinics are foreign-born and foreign-trained. It's this way because this is the way the AMA… [cont.]

A. As a MA in a psych office you would not be seeing patients, so you would not need a psych degree; and a psych aid usually works in patient. However, unless there is more medical type care going on, a psych office may not need a MA, especially doing "back office"--so you might want to think this through a bit more if you want psych and MA.

A. I also think to consult consulate is the best way. Some websites say as the following, about health insurance. (Please note I'm not an expert.) 1. Only foreign nationals who stay on over one year visa can be a member of National Health (kokumin kenko hoken). Please read the second page of "Outline of National Health Insurance". 2. If you are working in a company and are a member of health insurance of your company, she might be covered occasionally. (By the way, didn't she insure overseas travel insurance before leaving for?)

What is the medical exam and questions for life insurance like?
Q. We are looking into life insurance. I am wondering what the medical exam and questions are like? How much more typically is it if you have a medical issue (like high blood pressure) compared to if you have good health? We are in our late 20's. I forgot to add, do they only ask your current health for the last 6 months to a year? Or is it your whole health history? I ask because let's say the high blood pressure has been normal for the last 6 months to a year... will they still consider this in their pricing?
Asked by red_grad - Sat Jul 11 15:22:16 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Most life insurance companies will ask about your entire health history. (i.e. have you ever had surgery and if so why? etc. etc.) Additionally most life insurance companies will check your health records to make sure there are not any glaring problems. The medical exam depends on the coverage amount. If you're in your late 20s and high blood pressure is the only issue you have, they will most likely take a blood and urine sample along with checking your blood pressure. If high blood pressure is the only problem you have, it should not be grounds for denial. However it can cause you to get a higher rating.

A. There are a few blood tests that give an indication; most women reach the menopause at a similar age to when their mother did. I'm not sure there's much point to tests though, unless you've been trying for a baby for a long time without success. If you're worried about fertility, see a doctor.

How can the Philippines improve medical services when all the medical practitioners are leaving the country?
Q. We all know that there are so many medical practitioners especially nurses who are working abroad. The demand for health care providers in other countries became the apple of the eyes of those in the medical field. But with this, is there any hope for the Philippines to improve its health services when it is currently experiencing brain drain?

A. Dear Tootdee, Your question speaks of two things; your concern for the country and at the same time saying that the medical healthcare is stagnant to say the least. While it's true that Filipino doctors are going out of the country to get better pay it does not necessarily follow that medical healthcare is stagnant. As a matter of fact, advanced medical equipments and big hospitals are opening up. Hospitals which have the amenities of the big hotels are the trend nowadays, concrete examples are Asian Medical Center and the new St. Luke's Medical Center which is undergoing construction at the Fort, the newly developed sprawling business area in Greater Manila Area.
